Acorn: Drawing

September 3, 2010 By Wendy Campbell

13th-Tribe-Flyer-Oakyotl

Hailing from British Columbia, Canada,  Acorn (aka Scott Kennedy) has spent the last few years traveling the world making art as he goes, stopping in such places as Edinburgh, Vienna, Barcelona, Melbourne, New Zealand and Japan.

“With a focus on traditional mediums Acorn has spent most of his drawing time developing his craft with an ensemble of pens and inks. The characters and patterns in his work stem from no single culture or religion, but are part of an ongoing focus for creating something unique all together. An endless task.” (from No Vacancy gallery, Melbourne AU)

To see more from Acorn, visit Oakyotl.com or visit his photostream on Flickr. Check out Erratic Phenomenon for a recent interview with the artist.

Jon Todd: Mixed Media

June 6, 2010 By Wendy Campbell

Canadian artist Jon Todd has a unique style based on a process of layering in his artwork which includes tattoo graphics, street art, Asian, Northern Europe and Mexican culture as his influences.

Both a fine artist and illustrator, his work explores the social issues and pop culture iconography of the past and present. While depicting themes of war, corruption, and internal struggle, Todd uses numerous mediums as a part of his creative process including objects, wallpapers, screen prints, Sharpies and belt sanders. “His multimedia paintings resemble kaleidoscopic mosaics charged with iconography. These highly personal reflections, despite their vivacity, mainly deal with issues about misguided stigmas, psychosis and miscommunication.” (bio from Yves Laroche Gallery)
