Gosha Levochkin is a Los Angeles based painter whose surreal, urban warriors and detail driven style are rapidly attracting attention. Growing up in Russia before the fall of the Soviet Union, Gosha’s activities were limited so he spent much of his time drawing. When he moved to Los Angeles, he was exposed to a fresh style of urban art that he instantly identified with, and that inspired him to continue to focus and develop his personal painting style.
Gosha has always been intrigued with urban environments. To him, as buildings age with the effects of time and use, they contribute to their city’s unique history and character. Gosha is intrigued with how people live their daily lives in urban density and clutter and somehow make it all work. He imagines how each city dweller has a personal view of their surroundings visualized in their minds. Gosha brings these images to life in his artwork, in a playful yet thought-provoking style.
Over the years, Gosha has experimented with different mediums, learned from his “mistakes”, and is continuously refining his style. His latest artwork is comprised of a series of bold ink drawings complemented with a bright watercolor palette. Gosha’s exciting new body of work, captures visions of an urban apocalypse, stylistically expressed with an underlying humor, in a compelling and captivating way. (from Cave Gallery)
Levochkin currently has a solo show at Cave Gallery in Venice, California. “Going Places” runs through November 6, 2010.
