Canadian artist Jon Todd opens his second solo exhibition titled “Trophy” on Friday May 27th 2011 at Smash Gallery in Toronto, Canada. The show will transform the gallery’s space by depicting a combination of Mexican lucha libre and Japanese Samurai symbolism.
“Naming tattoo graphics, street art, Asian, Northern European and Mexican culture as his many influences, the exhibition will reflect timeless depictions of social issues and pop culture iconography while exploring themes of war, corruption, and internal struggle. Acting as a synthesis of Todd’s practice, his mixed media paintings will also be accompanied by a custom designed full sized professional wrestling ring and a depiction of Jake The Snake “Robert, his childhood wrestling hero. Alongside this new body of work, a 16ft mural created with fellow artists will be released on the opening night.”
