Alexandros Vasmoulakis: I’ ve Got You a Date with Botticelli’s Niece

May 5, 2011 By Wendy Campbell

In case you missed it (like I did), here are the latest gallery works from  Greek artist Alexandros Vasmoulakis‘ second solo exhibition in Greece (Feb. 15, 2011 – March 24, 2011) at A.Antonopoulou.Art Gallery in Athens.

Vasmoulakis  is generally known for his large-scale wall paintings he has created in the streets of Athens-GR as well as in China, Germany, Slovenia and elsewhere. His new work “verges on the nude with tenderness, humor and lots of sarcasm. He invites us to “I’ve Got You a Date with Botticelli’s Niece” and other smiling and happy Aphrodities of that era.  Renaissance figures leave back the surrendered and lustful gaze of their femininity and nudity and make mouths at the virile ideology of that era”

I’ve also included a photo of Vasmoulakis’ latest monumental mural  in the streets of Athens. To see more, visit Vasmou.com.

Alexandros Vasmoulakis: Mixed Media

November 17, 2010 By Wendy Campbell

“Alexandros Vasmoulakis was born in 1980 and has been painting from an early age. He studied fine art at university and has honed a highly distinctive style that is prevalent throughout his work. He is based in Athens but has recently spent a year or so in Paris soaking up the culture that that city has to offer.

But it is in Athens where his work is most visible. With his natural instinct for scale & composition he has produced many stunning pieces on doors, telephone boxes, hoardings and on the flanks of buildings up to 10 stories tall generally making his home city a more attractive place to live.

Alexandros work is predominantly character based and these creations explore the core values of human nature such as love, desire, seduction and hate. His work is very much driven by his state of mind and will reflect the mood of any given day. He uses mixed media including collage, paint, photography & digital to convey the relationships between these emotions.” (from Nosco Gallery)
